The Muse out there

I have to constantly jerk myself back to the here and now, where I am a parent, a father with responsibilities and mundane duties. Making peanut butter & jelly sandwiches using a large glass to cut the crust off in a circle. Three loads of laundry every third day. Beef stroganoff. A thirty mile commute twice each schoolday. Cutting out 650 outlines of hands for kindergarteners... sorting the mail at one school, picking up a bag full of discarded trash at another. Still more laundry. Bandaids on knees, pulling teeth that are barely attached, endless trips to the bookstore. Good things too - riding waves with my son, playing Polly Pockets with my daughter. Having my ASS handed to me at poker by a >6< year old; thank god I pulled "Yokel" triple word score out of the Scrabble bag the other night or she'd have beaten me at that as well. I love my kids. They have buoyed me up through the worst of it all.
